Benvenuto Court House - Martis Camp
It is a directional plan that stretches from the natural clearing [the proposed plan removes 3 of the approximate 60 trees on the site] at the upper eastern most part of the property down into the lower contours to the west. A lower level that contains two guest suites is planned under the main level here. A core design is envisioned that can be more fully utilized for extended family visits.
The directional form allows the entire house to see the view to Lookout Mountain, absorb the south sun and view the sunrises over the Carson Range Mountains. The upper level continues to the west over the lower level 32 feet, elevated over the largest boulders on the site. A directional entry is concealed from view and is located between the house and a tandem drive through garage. This garage plan limits the impact of the garage face to the entry and street.
The plan in general is expedient in the way in which the necessities are provided. The number of rooms has been kept to a minimum. Storage is provided via efficient cabinetry and casework and exposed closets.
The master Suite is accessed thru the mass of a concrete fireplace form. An entry space of books and a place to sit provides privacy to the suite and stairs up to a perched place to think. Past a dressing area and bath, a semi concealed sleeping area includes more shelves and a comfortable place to sit for two. A view line that extends continuously through the access from the west edge of the house through the master suite on the east edge [when the door is open] into a protected garden place is transparent and distant from either end of the house.
Initial thoughts on materials include rusting steel screens/siding, minimum redwood, smooth concrete and glass, galvanized steel details.
