Lesa's House
A very close collaboration between Architect and client resulted in a fusion of thought not found on many projects.
This house was designed carefully to respond to the owner's very explicit direction for "a traditional, family friendly, ski house with Arts and Crafts inspired detailing and materiality." An overlap of volumes vertically and diagonally provide a dynamic collective place that is formed by rooms that act as backdrops for daily life within the space. Built transparencies allow view and light through the semi private gathering places and results in layered, screened interior views up through three stories.
A rich, glowing environment of warm color emanates through the house via commissioned Hudson School like Art by Michael Stehr and blacksmithed forged iron and mica fixtures by Steve Lopes. One piece of art is a frieze like installation above a major beam in the house painted by Ellen Dudley. The herd of wild horses captured on the plains of Montana in brilliant oranges and browns is close to the spirit of the owner who has owned and ridden horses.
