Paia House - Maui, Hawaii

This ocean front home is located in Paia, on the north coast of Maui, Hawaii. The entry is protected from the street by a small court yard formed by a guest house/garage and native volcanic stone wall. Once inside this courtyard a stainless steel lap pool pulls one through a glazed entry to the ocean and setting sun.

A collage like assemblage of neighborhood consistent room size forms, jostle for position to view the water. Local vernacular roof shapes grow together to compose a pavilion of a house that opens completely to the Pacific Ocean.

Materials used in the structure including native stone, reclaimed redwood, copper and stainless steel require little or no maintenance, yet they are capable of withstanding the extreme weather of this ocean front location.
